A timeline of the formation of Age Friendly Pacifica

Our Mission

Our mission is to build a healthier, more inclusive Pacifica by shepherding initiatives that improve daily life for residents of all ages and abilities. We believe that when our community works better for older adults and people with disabilities, it works better for everyone.

Our Members

Pacifica was selected as one of three pilot cities by San Mateo County Supervisors for their
Age Friendly City Development Initiative and began planning and developing their Age-Friendly
Initiative in 2019 with guidance provided by the Center for Age-Friendly Excellence
(CAFE). With CAFE’s guidance, the city put together an Age Friendly Task Force that was
comprised of the City of Pacifica’s Parks, Beaches and Recreation Director and Senior
Services Supervisor, a city council member, representatives of key community
organizations, and resident advocates for older adults.

What is an Age Friendly City?

An age-friendly community is one that is engaged in an intentional effort over time to enhance the livability of their community that:

  • Promotes active aging.

  • Supports aging-in-place as residents need more assistance.

  • Supports and promotes existing senior services in the community (e.g. Pacifica’s Senior Service Programs).

  • Fosters a sense of community among neighbors of all ages.

  • Enhances the “livability” of a community for people of all ages.

  • Engages with a variety of people, groups and organizations as important community stakeholders and potential partners in age-friendly efforts.
